Hannah outpaces Fast & Furious at Box Office

Hannah Montana: The Movie put some brakes on the runaway success of Fast & Furious, while the animated 3-D movie Monsters vs. Aliens held on for a strong finish in third place at the Easter weekend’s box office.

Hannah Montana, the Disney release based on the popular Disney Channel series and starring Miley Cyrus, pulled in $34 million in its opening frame. Fast & Furious, the fourth film in the popular street racing series, took in $28.7 million for second place and an impressive 10-day cumulative gross of $118 million.

Monsters vs. Aliens took in $22.6 million in its third weekend in release, roaring to a to-date gross of $141 million.

The new comedy release Observe and Report came in fourth with $11 million in in business, while the live-action anime adaptation Dragonball Evolution took in $4.6 million in its first weekend to finish in eighth place.
