Illumination to Bring Gervais’ Flanimals to 3D Life

Office creator Ricky Gervais is getting animated, with his children’s book series Flanimals optioned for a 3D feature film.

Illumination Entertainment, based at Universal, picked up the four-volume book series written by Gervais and drawn by Rob Steen.

The Simpsons‘ Matt Selman will write the script, adapting the story about 50 species of creatures so ugly they are endearing. Gervais will be executive producer and provide the voice of the lead character, a sweaty purple creature who tries to change the world.
