The hot comedy film The Hangover appears to not yet have overstayed its welcome with moviegoers, topping the box office for the second week in a row. The Warner Bros. comedy took in $33 million at the domestic box office, bringing its 10-day total to $105 million.
For the second weekend in a row, Hangover beat out the Disney-Pixar film Up, which took in a still-strong $30 million in its third weekend in release. The film’s domestic total is $187 million.
The Taking of Pelham 123 was the top-grossing new release this weekend. The film, directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta, opened to $25 million.
Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian came in fourth, grossing $9.6 million for the weekend and raising its cumulative gross to $143 million. It was followed closely by Land of the Lost, which took in $9.1 million in its second weekend, for a total of $34 million.
The Eddie Murphy family comedy Imagine That opened in sixth place, with $5.7 million.
Rounding out the top ten were some of this summer’s stronger performers. Star Trek grossed $5.6 million for the weekend for a total $232 million; Terminator Salvation had a $4.7 million weekend and has totaled $113 million so far; Angels & Demons was just behind with $4.2 million and a $123 million cumulative gross; and the Sam Raimi horror film Drag Me to Hell rounds out the list with $3.8 million and a $35 million gross.
