The new feature film adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has a writer: John Fusco.
Fusco’s credits include The Forbidden Kingdom, Hidalgo and Young Guns, as well as a remake of Seven Samurai for The Weinstein Co., Variety reports.
The live-action film, expected to come out in 2011, will be heavy on the action Fusco is known for as a martial artist.
The writer told Variety the new film will be an origin story for the pizza-eating Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael, along with their mentor Splinter. The film will incorporate elements of the original comics by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, which launched the franchise in 1983 and spawned a hugely successful animation franchise, four live-action films and an animated feature film in 2007.
The film has yet to announce a director or studio yet.
