Funny Chuckles Past CG Pets, Boy Wizard

Funny People laughed its way past the battling guinea pigs of G-Force to the top of a modest weekend at the box office.

The Judd Apatow dramedy grossed an estimated $22.6 million in its opening weekend, pushing it past a strong $17.9 million third weekend for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The sixth film in the popular boy wizard series so far has grossed more than $255 million domestically.

Potter edged out by a nose last weekend’s box office winner, G-Force, which took in $17.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $67 million.

Aliens in the Attic, Fox’s CG-live-action hybrid, opened in fifth place with $7.8 million, behind fourth-place finisher The Ugly Truth, which took in $13 million.

The animated Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs hung on to seventh place, taking in $5.3 million for the weekend and upping its domestic total to $182 million.

Also still in release is the Disney-Pixar film Up, which came in 15th place with $1.1 million for the weekend and a total of $286 million.
