Wednesday is not the normal day for new video games or movies to debut, but neither The Beatles: Rock Band or Shane Acker’s feature-film version of 9 are typical projects.
The Beatles: Rock Band is the long-awaited video game debut of the Fab Four. The game, from Apple Corps, MTV Games and Harmonix, allows gamers to play along with 45 songs from the group’s catalog while the highly anticipated animation brings to visual life the hey days of John, Paul, George and Ringo. Additional songs for the game will be made available for download over the next few months via The Beatles: Rock Band Music Store.
The game is being released for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 worldwide on Sept. 9 ‘ the same day remastered CDs of the group’s music catalog are being released ‘ and is expected to be one of the gaming industry’s biggest hits ever.
Here’s a look at the trailer for the game.
Focus Features, meanwhile, opens the stop-motion animated movie 9 the same day, screening it in more than 1,600 theaters domestically.
With producers like Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) on board, the film’s unusual look is earning plenty of attention, with bloggers and critics speculating it may become a cult hit.
Based on an Oscar-nominated short film Acker made as a student at UCLA, the feature-length 9 features the voices of Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly and Christopher Plummer.
