Disney has signed a deal with director Guillermo del Toro to create a line of scary animated features under a new imprint called Double Dare You.
Del Toro, an avid fan of comic books, horror films and animation, will produce all the label’s films as well as directing several of the titles, according to Variety.
“As a director, I love to take audiences into fantastic new worlds and provide them with some anxious moments in the process,” del Toro told the trade paper. “It is part of the Disney canon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic films.”
Del Toro’s providing the story for the label’s first project, Trollhunters.
The director, best known for the Hellboy films and the Oscar-winning fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth, is currently set to direct the two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, as well as remakes for Universal including Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Slaughterhouse-Five.
