First Superman Comic Sells for $317,200 at Auction

A rare fine-condition copy of Action Comics #1, the first comic book to feature Superman, sold at auction for $317,200.

The copy sold at auction Saturday was previously unknown until its previous owner, who reportedly bought it at a secondhand bookstore in the 1950s for 35 cents, decided to put it up for auction through the website ComicConnect.com

Only about a hundred copies of the 1938 comic book are known to exist, making it one of the most sought-after comics among collectors.

John Dolmayan, drummer for the rock band System of A Down and a comic book fan, placed the winning bid on behalf of an unidentified buyer.
