Tim Burton plans to make a stop-motion, 3-D film out of the original Addams Family cartoons, reports Deadline Hollywood.
The cartoons, drawn by Charles Addams and originally published in The New Yorker, inspired the 1960s TV series and two live-action features in the 1990s. Deadline Hollywood says Burton’s version will be based solely on the original cartoons and not the TV series.
The rights to the cartoons have been optioned by Illumination Entertainment. The company is based at Universal and its chief, Chris Meledandri, will produce the film. A writer is set to be hired shortly, Deadline Hollywood reports.
Burton’s last stop-motion animated film was The Corpse Bride.
