Three Disney Pics Coming to IMAX 3D

IMAX and Disney have reached deal to release three of the studio’s films ‘ including Cars 2 ‘ in 3D next year, according to Variety.

The deal also covers the comedy Mars Needs Moms, due out March 11, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on May 20. Cars 2 is due out June 24.

Deal builds on the success of the 3D IMAX release of Toy Story 3, with the film grossing a record $8.4 million ‘ about 8 percent of the total $110 million opening.

“The incredible performance of our Imax releases in 2009 and 2010 demonstrated that the combination of Imax and Disney resonates with moviegoers worldwide,” Chuck Viane, Disney’s president of distribution, told the trade.
