New Yorker Films has acquired the animated feature film My Dog Tulip.
The film, based on the best-selling memoir by J.R. Ackerley, is directed by Paul and Sandra Fierlinger and features the voices of Christopher Plummer, the late Lynn Redgrave, and Isabella Rossellini. It played as an official selection at the 2009 Toronto Film Festival and is the first animated feature to be hand-drawn and painted using paperless computer technology.
New Yorker, which acquired all theatrical and non-theatrical rights as well as home video, digital and TV rights, will premiere the film Sept. 1 at Film Forum in New York. A national theatrical release will follow.
The deal is the first for New Yorker Films since it reopened its doors. The distributor was forced to close a little over a year ago.
