Veteran animation director Steve Trenbirth is set to direct Trouble Down Under, an independent animated feature.
According to Variety, Fastlane Entertainment is set to produce the movie with an October 2012 release planned.
The movie, about the tension caused by a group of African meerkats’ arrival in the animal community of the Australian outback, is being executive produced by Tony Findlay and Fastlane CEO Frank Miniaci.
Findlay and Howard Jackson are writing the script, with production set to start next month.
Trenbirth’s credits range from TV episodes of Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop to animated DVD features The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride and Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure.
Production will start in August.
