Several animated films have had their holiday 2012 release dates shuffled by the conclusion of The Twilight Saga, while Disney’s 3D upgrade of Beauty and the Beast has been delayed indefinitely.
Disney has announced that the Pixar sequel Monsters, Inc. 2 will now debut on Nov. 2, 2012 ‘ two weeks earlier than previously announced. The move comes just after Summit Entertainment staked out Nov. 16, 2012, as the release date for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part 2).
Paramount, meanwhile, has bumped the DreamWorks Animation feature The Guardians from Nov. 2, 2012, to Nov. 21, 2012.
The 3D version of Beauty and the Beast, meanwhile, has been pulled from Disney’s schedule altogether. The project originally was set to be released this past February before being bumped to a late 2010 or early 2011 date.
When the upgrade will be released is unknown. Disney executives told Variety that the film would be released at some point, but the studio was wary of over-saturating the market. Completed 3D footage of the film was shown at Comic-Con last year and a Blu-ray release of the film is set for October.
Disney also has removed from its schedule the canceled Pixar animated feature Newt.
