Gamers can start making travel plans for their annual pilgrimage to the "Woodstock of gaming." The 9th annual QuakeCon video game festival and tournament will be held August 12-15 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas. More than 5,000 video game enthusiasts from around the world are expected to show up for the free, 24 hour-a-day event.
The four-day event will feature contests, workshops, hardware and software demos/exhibits, giveaways, parties and, of course, tournament action.
First-come, first-served online registration will begin at 9 p.m. EST on Wednesday, April 14 at www.quakecon.org.
The new venue will house the largest-ever BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) area accommodating 3,000 players, an increase of 1,000 seats from last year. Information regarding the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center is available at www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylordtexan.com.
QuakeCon began in 1996 as a LAN party dedicated to fans of id Software’s games, and has grown to include the titles QUAKE, QUAKE II, QUAKE III Arena, QUAKE III: Team Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The four-day event continues to be planned and operated by a dedicated group of 30 year-round volunteers and nearly 200 on-site volunteers.
