SEGA of America has released a specially developed version of Sonic The Hedgehog that is playable on the new iPod nano with video, the iPod classic and the fifth generation iPod. Fans of the game franchise can purchase and download the title from the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) for $4.99 and keep it for themselves or gift it to a friend or loved one.
‘Sonic is one of the most beloved video game characters of all time,’ says Simon Jeffery, president and COO of SEGA of America. ‘And with the installed base that iPod enjoys, Sonic now becomes available to a whole new group of casual and hardcore gamers just in the time for the holidays.’
Sonic The Hedgehog was introduced in 1991 and has since sold more than 45 million units. The property spawned a series of comic books and a popular Saturday morning cartoon, 1993’s The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Three more animated series followed, the latest being DIC’s Sonic X, which ran from 2003 to 2006. Sonic Underground: The Complete Series from 1999 was released today on DVD by Shout! Factory.
