Big Idea Protects VeggieTales DVD with Macrovision

With the DVD recorder market on the rise, studios are concerned that the film industry will fall victim to the same piracy problems that hit the music industry when Napster and illegal CD copying took a bite out of sales. To protect the home video release of its CG feature Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie, Big Idea Prods. has turned to Macrovision Corporation.

Macrovision’s technology was originally designed to prevent unauthorized copying of VHS, DVD and PPV programming to VCRs without impacting the original playback. An added feature of the company’s DVD copy protection technology is that it helps prevent DVD-to-DVD copying.

The majority of the recently introduced personal video recorders, DVD/VCR combo units, DVD recorders and other combo units comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. As a result, they recognize Macrovision’s proprietary copy protection process and disable digital recording to removable media.

Big Idea has copy-protected every unit of Jonah, which streets on March 4.
