Global post-production company Prime Focus Group has acquired Frantic Films VFX and Post Logic Studios, its first North American holdings. Post Logic is based in Los Angeles and New York, and Frantic has offices in Los Angeles, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, and the transaction is pending applicable regulatory approvals.
Prime Focus Group’s six visual effects and post-production facilities across India, and four facilities in London. With the addition of Frantic and Post Logic, the company gains 200 new staff members and 55,000 square feet of prime real estate in the heart of Hollywood, Calif. Prime Focus plans to keep of both companies operating as independent facilities, providing each with access to a talent pool of over 400 visual effects artists worldwide.
‘By virtue of their fantastic reputations and top quality services, Post Logic and Frantic Films will facilitate a gateway for Prime Focus Group into all of the major studios,’ says Prime Focus founder Namit Mahlotra. ‘Both companies also have strong R&D divisions that have developed proprietary technologies and processes for film color management, visual effects and pipeline collaboration which will benefit the organization as a whole.’
Frantic Films has provided effects for such major Hollywood films as Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, Grindhouse, Superman Returns, X-Men 3, Poseidon, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium and Journey 3-D. Prime Focus Group will also be acquiring Frantic Films Software, the company’s R&D division that develops and markets visual effects software solutions.
Post Logic is known for delivering high-level digital intermediate, color science and post-production services to independent producers and major studios. Recent projects completed at the facility include rob Zombie’s remake of Halloween and Riddley Scott’s crime drama American Gangster.
