Hinge Digital officially opened its doors Wednesday as a full-service 3D animation and visual effects studio in Portland, Ore.
Founded by Roland Gauthier, Michael Kuehn and Alex Tysowsky, Hinge offers combined experience of more than 40 years working for such studios as Disney, Sony Imageworks and Laika.
Extending its presence throughout the entertainment industry, Hinge Digital also specializes in the development of film and television properties based on original content from graphic novel and creature-feature genres.
Executive producer Gauthier has more than 10 years of visual effects experience and has worked on prominent projects and brands including M&M’s, Honda, Microsoft and Henry Selick’s award-winning animated short, Moongirl. He will focus on business development, budget maintenance and creative direction, while keeping a hand in production.

Kuehn, the studio’s visual effects supervisor, has a background in digital content creation for the commercial, feature film and video game industries. Kuehn has nearly 20 years of expertise in everything from previsualization to asset development and animation. He has held multiple high-ranking roles at studios including Walt Disney Feature Animation, Sony Pictures Imageworks and Laika Entertainment.
Tysowsky has created animation for more than a dozen feature films including Spider-Man 2 and The Chubbchubbs! As the company’s animation director, he also handles business aspects ranging from client relations to industry research and development.
