We are just two weeks away from the official Netflix premiere of Fixed, the new 2D animated R-rated comedy from acclaimed writer-director Genndy Tartakovsky (Primal, Samurai Jack, Hotel Transylvania). Ahead of the launch on August 13, Netflix has unveiled a new trailer and sneak peek clip introducing viewers to Bull, the canine world’s Average Joe, who embarks on a wild adventure on the eve of getting neutered.
“I was born to play a fat, hairy dog terrified of losing his balls. I am Bull, and Bull is me,” said voice star Adam DeVine (The Righteous Gemstones). “Genndy is a legend, and if anyone’s going to be in charge of my balls, I’m glad it’s him.”
The voice cast also features Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan, Beck Bennett, Michelle Buteau and River Gallo.
Produced by Sony Pictures Animation, Fixed is directed by Tartakovsky from a screenplay by Tartakovsky and Jon Vitti, story by Steve Greenberg, Rich Lufrano, Tartakovsky and Vitti. Michelle Murdocca produces, with Christian Roedel as co-producer.
Tartakovsky shared more details about the making of Fixed with today’s hype-up:
“Wow! What a journey! In 2010 I pitched to Sony Pictures Animation an idea of a mature themed animated movie based on my high school friends. I thought if I could caricature and enhance the personalities and relationships then the audience will find them as funny as I do. In my first pitch I focused the story and entertainment on characters rather than a high concept idea but still needed a stronger concept than the generic road trip story I was pitching,” said the director.
“It is not often that a great idea appears effortlessly out of thin air, but that day, at that very moment, the animation Gods fired down a thunderbolt of an idea! ‘What if the main character, a dog, finds out he will get neutered in the morning?’ That was it! In my 30 years of pitching and selling never has an idea come to me so quickly and was received so fondly. An idea that in one sentence was so clear that most people smiled, or even laughed.
“Originally, I was pitching Fixed as a CG movie since a 2D feature was ‘out of the question!’ Incredibly enough and to everyone’s surprise we actually sold it as a 2D, hand drawn, animated feature! Loving the art of hand drawn animation as much as I do, I was elated! Giddy really. We were all set to make an original 2D, rated R, fully animated movie, truly a unicorn.”
