Cowabunga! ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Arrives on MeTV Toons Sept. 15

The radical reptiles of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will bring their pizza-chomping, nun-chuck swinging adventures to MeTV Toons next month! The original 1980s animated series will join the network’s lineup, running Monday-Friday mornings at 7:30 a.m., 4 p.m. and at 12 a.m. ET/PT starting September 15.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered in 1987 as a five-part miniseries, began its full-time run in October of 1988 and aired for eight years, with characters launched into the pop culture zeitgeist and cementing its place as one of the most popular animated series in television history. The series features Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, a fictional superhero team of anthropomorphic turtles trained in ninjutsu living in the sewers of New York City.

Show characters have been included in crossovers, with later entries of the franchise, including the 2009 film Turtles Forever and the 2012 TV series for Nickelodeon.

The original animated series was produced by animation studio Fred Wolf Films/Murakami-Wolf and Group W Productions, and based on the comics created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featured the voices of Cam Clarke, Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen, Townsend Coleman, Peter Renaday, Renae Jacobs, James Avery, Pat Fraley, Barry Gordon and others. Series directors and writers included Fred Wolf, Jack Mendelsohn and David Wise, with Aeon Flux creator Peter Chung as creative director for the first three seasons.
