Leading French studio Watch Next Media has signed a multi-territory broadcaster deal for its new serialized epic series titled Dungeons & Kittens. Targeting kids aged 7-11, the 12 x 22’ series is created by Clément De Ruyter and Mélanie Duval and inspired by role-playing games that are hugely popular across Europe. Dungeons & Kittens will be distributed worldwide by Superights (the international distribution arm of Superprod Group). The series will be directed by Jeremy Guiter and Clement de Ruyter with Stephane Nedez acting as co-director for the Luxembourgish part.
Commissioned by France Televisions (France), and pre-bought by BBC Children’s and Education (UK), DR (Denmark) RTS (Switzerland), VRT (Belgium), BNT (Bulgaria), TV5 (Worldwide) and RTL (Luxembourg), the series is a pan-European co-production between Watch Next Media, Melusine Studio in Luxembourg (an affiliate of the Superprod Group), Lunanime (Belgium) and Studio Zmei (Bulgaria), with support from the CNC, Pictanovo, the Film Fund Luxembourg, the Bulgarian National Film Center and Region Ile-de-France.
French publishing group Gallimard has already planned the roll out of children’s novels, comics for teens, board games and card games for families which will be delivered by the end of 2026.
The official synopsis reads: “In a world of fantasy and danger, a world where lawless dogs spread terror, where every cave, path or tree hides diabolical traps, esoteric creatures or strange remnants of a forgotten civilization, the only safe haven is the Kingdom of Cats, a cozy cocoon perched high above the forest, surrounded by walls, guards and long since blocked secret passageways.
“When three kittens are wrongfully banished from the Kingdom of Cats, their only hope of returning home is to find a treasure so extraordinary that the king will have no choice but to pardon them. So, when they witness a strange meteorite crash in the distance, they think this treasure-from-the-sky could be their ticket home. Joined by a clumsy kitten meowgician-in-training, the four of them set off towards the treasure, navigating treacherous landscapes and facing formidable creatures on the way. Yet as their adventure unfolds, a far greater danger emerges, one that threatens not just their quest, but the Kingdom of Cats itself.”

“Role play and fantasy has long-inspired great story telling and we are thrilled that so many broadcasters across Europe have come on board our latest animated series Dungeons & Kittens,” says Philippe Alessandri, President of Watch Next Media (Nate Is Late, Boy Girl Dog Cat Mouse Cheese, Hello Kitty Super Style!). “With a licensing programme already in place we are confident that it will quickly build a fan-base among children and their families.”
