Watch: How ‘Transferable’ Directors Crafted a Compelling Question of Sacrifice in Agora’s First Animated Short

Transferable [Agora.Studio]

Would you give up your own life to save someone you love? That is the age-old question posed in Transferable, the first original animated short film created by Agora — a global talent network utilizing a Cloud-based remote work model to close the gap between animation, VFX and games artists and studios around the world. Having contributed to projects ranging from Thelma the Unicorn, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Star Wars: Visions and Fortnite to Alberto Mielgo’s acclaimed Love, Death + Robots piece Jibaro, the dispersed studio now makes its own storytelling statement in animation.

Transferable is set in a world ravaged by an incurable disease, and centers on a devoted husband and father who is forced to make an impossible choice as his wife’s life hangs in the balance. Agora artists handled everything from the original concept to final rendering and compositing, only outsourcing audio (to Vibe Avenue) and final color grading (to Studio Élément).

To introduce audiences to the new project, Agora has shared an early look with Animation Magazine in a behind-the-scenes Story & Characters featurette. Appearing in the video to share their insights are co-director & executive producer David Hubert and co-director & writer Jacob Gardner, who share how they took Gardner’s real life experience and cranked it “to 11” for an emotionally impactful, narratively engaging film with no dialog, set in a stylized CG world.
