Kids’ Animated Fantasy Series ‘Høj’ Adventures On with Serious Kids

U.K.-based boutique distributor Serious Kids has secured the worldwide content rights to Høj (pronounced “hoy,” meaning “the tall one”), an animated serial produced by Skjaldborn in Copenhagen for kids aged six to nine. Twenty-six of the 52 x 11′ episodes produced for Danish pubcaster DR been delivered, airing on DR, SVT (Sweden) and svYLE (Finland) this year. Serious Kids launched the IP at MIPJunior 2025, and the English dub is being produced at Flix in Manchester.

The 2D-animated series centers on Høj, an unusually tall dwarf due to his mixed heritage. Having already lost his mother, he finds himself in more trouble after losing a magical jewel to a wicked giant. With help from the dwarf girl, Trin, and the elf, Alfarim, Høj embarks on a journey in which he must learn to master shapeshifting and gather his friends to fight evil — having an epic time along the way.

“At DR, we are, among other things, currently investing in strong serialized storytelling because we see the value it brings to young audiences,” said Julie Lind Holm Hansen, Editor at DR Ramasjang. “When done right, a serialized format allows for deeper emotional engagement, character development, and a sense of anticipation that keeps children coming back week after week. We believe in building universes that young viewers can truly immerse themselves in — something that Høj offers through both its narrative structure and its rich, mythologically-inspired world. We’re super excited to see how it connects with international audiences.”

This is the second time Serious Kids has inked a deal with a Danish company, following a meeting at Animation Production Days in Stuttgart. Team Nuggets from Sparre Productions and Godo Films for DR and Canal+ was the first in 2024, and has since been licensed by Serious Kids to RTVE Spain and ZDF Germany.

“With Høj, we wanted to create a show that doesn’t just entertain, but draws kids into a rich and ever-expanding universe where they can unleash their inner nerds — filled with elves, dwarfs, giants and other mythological beings,” said Edith Marie Nielsen, Partner & Executive Producer at Skjaldborn. “It is exciting to see broadcasters like DR embracing this kind of long-form storytelling and helping lead the way. Their support has been essential in shaping Høj into the epic, character-driven adventure we always hoped it could become.”

Genevieve Dexter, Founder & CEO of Serious Kids, commented, “It’s great to see the wonderful Nordic storytelling talent expressed in such a funny and gripping original animated adventure story. Older children need deeper and longer narratives to feed their imagination and we look forward to introducing Høj to the world.”
