Visual effects producer Joe Gareri has joined Sony Pictures Imageworks’ production management team. His first assignment will send him in Chennai to manage and supervise the staffing and project workflow of Imageworks India’s visual effects work. Gareri will report to Jenny Fulle, exec VP of production at Imageworks and co-managing director of Imageworks India.
Prior to joining Imageworks, Gareri served as senior exec producer in charge of production at Pacific Title and Art Studio, where he was responsible for managing the production staff and producing visual effects projects. During his tenure there, he contributed to such projects as all three Pirates of the Caribbean films, RV, Son of the Mask, The Chronicles of Riddick, Catwoman, The Ring, Men In Black II, 2 Fast 2 Furious and The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift. He joined Pacific Title from Pacific Ocean Post, where he produced visual effects for such films as The Salton Sea, Little Nicky, X-Men, Three Kings and Mystery Men.
Sony Pictures Imageworks has received Academy awards for its vfx work on Spider-Man 2 and for its first CG-animated short film, The Chubbchubbs! The short paved the way for the feature films Open Season and Surf’s Up, which was nominated for this year’s Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The studio also garnered Oscar nods for its work on Superman Returns, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Spider-Man, Hollow Man, Stuart Little and Starship Troopers. In additon, Monster House was up for Best Animated Feature in 2007.
