Also in stores today is the new Popeye 75th Anniversary Collector’s Edition DVD, put out by Koch Vision Ent. This three-disc set ($29.98) features the limited-animation cartoons made by King Features for television in the sixties and should keep fans happy until a real Popeye collection hits the market.
Most animation aficionados bemoan the fact that the classic Max Fleischer and Famous Studios theatrical Popeye shorts (1933-1957) have never been released on VHS or DVD. Here’s another plea to Warner Bros. and King Features Syndicate to do something about this big shortcoming!
