Batman: The Animated Series and the vintage cartoon series Challenge of the Super Friends are making their way to DVD for the first time in Warner Home Videos digitally re-mastered DC Comics Classic Collection. Both disc sets will hit shelves on July 6, 2004.
Batman: The Animated SeriesVolume One ($49.98 SRP) will be presented in a four-disc collector’s set with more than10 hours of original TV programming and bonus content. Meanwhile, Challenge of the Super Friends: The First Season ($29.98 SRP) will get the two-disc deluxe set treatment with 16 original episodes and extra features.
In addition to 28 episodes from the popular show, Batman: The Animated SeriesVolume One will include a retrospective featurette titled Batman: The Legacy Continues, producer commentary on the episodes “On Leather Wings” and “Heart of Ice,” a tour of the Batcave and a pilot promo titled The Dark Knight’s First Night. Based on the DC comic books created by Bob Kane and originally airing to critical acclaim on the Fox Kids Network, the four-time Emmy Award-winning series spawned the successful feature film, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, Robin, The Flash, Hawkman, Green Lantern, Black Vulcan and the rest of the Hall of Justice gang are back to take on the Legion of Doom in Hanna-Barberas 1978 series, which aired on ABC. Challenge of the Super Friends: The First Season will include a retrospective featurette titled Saturday, Sleeping Bags and Super Friends, Hall of Justice video bios, Legion of Doom video bios and commentary on the episodes "Wanted: The Super Friends” and “History of Doom.”
