Jetsons, Jonny Quest Journey to DVD

Warner Home Video wants you to get reacquainted with George Jetson, Jane, his wife, and the rest of the family with today’s release of two new titles in the Hanna-Barbera Golden Collection DVD series. The Jetsons: The Complete First Season and Jonny Quest: Season One are available for the first time as digitally re-mastered four-disc collectors DVD sets. Each lists for $64.92.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s 21st Century counterpoint to The Flintstones, The Jetsons (1962) takes the all-American family to the ultra-convenient future where flying cars, floating cities and androids make life easier but do little to eliminate the follies of raising a family. Though the animated series only lasted one full season, the episodes continued to air for more than 15 years. The new DVD will include all 24 installments and a host of bonus features including commentary by Janet Waldo (Judy Jetson), character bios and the featurettes Space Age Gadgets, The Jetsons: The Family of the Future and Rosey the Robotic Maid, for a running time of 624 minutes.

Jonny Quest (1964) follows the adventures of a boy who tags along with dad on government assignments. Joining him in his detective work are ex-agent “Race” Bannon, Indian boy Hadji and family bulldog Bandit. The DVD features all 26 classic episodes from the first season, as well as Quest Files: Fun Facts & Trivia, a featurette on animators titled Adventures in Animation: A Cartoon Called Quest, an original commercial spot for P.F. Flyer Sneaker and the Jonny Quest Video Handbook with bios on heroes, villains and locations. It runs 676 minutes. The show was created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, based on an idea by Doug Wildey.

Also arriving on home video today is Shrek 3-D, the home video version of the Universal Studios theme park attraction Shrek 4-D. The release features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow in a story that bridges the gap between the original Shrek and the sequel, which opens May 19.

The two-disc set includes 3D and 2D versions on one disc and the original Shrek on a second disc. There are also four pairs of 3D glasses and bonus features including an extended ending, “Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Party,” technical goofs and storyboard pitches of deleted scenes. It retails for the suggested price of $16.95.
