If you missed it during its limited theatrical run, you can now pick up the French CG-animated feature Kaena: The Prophecy on DVD. The fantasy adventure flick arrives at retail alongside Lions Gates adaptation of the Marvel comic book property, The Punisher, and a handful of special edition offerings.
Directed by Chris Delaporte and Pascal Pinon from a screenplay by Delaporte, Kaena: The Prophecy takes place on a floating tree world known as Axis, where a young rebel must uncover a mystery and lead her people to freedom from an oppressive race of creatures. The English-language dub features the voice talents of Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2), the late Richard Harris (Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Angelica Huston (Barbie as Rapunzel, The Life Aquatic), Keith David (The Chronicles of Riddick, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury) and Michael McShane (Treasure Planet, A Bugs Life).
DVD extra features include a making-of featurette, a virtual interview with Kaena (voiced by the original French star), bonus movie trailers and a trailer for Sony Online Entertainments EverQuest II. The Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment release lists for $24.96
Comic book fans can pick up The Punisher starring Tom Jane (Deep Blue Sea, Dreamcatcher) John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, X2: X-Men United) and Roy Scheider (Jaws, TVs Seaquest DSV). The film tells the story of F.B.I undercover agent and former Special Forces operative Frank Castle, who turns vigilante when his wife and son are executed as payback for his final undercover assignment. Bonus materials include commentary by director Jonathan Hensleigh, behind-thescenes featurettes a music video and a 28-page Punisher mini-comic. The DVD lists for $27.98.
As Sony Pictures gets set to unleash Resident Evil: Apocalypse in theaters this weekend, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment revisits the first film based on the popular video game franchise with Resident Evil: Deluxe Edition. The DVD comes with a free ticket to the sequel, as well as extra features such as commentary by director Paul W.S. Anderson (Alien Vs. Predator, Mortal Kombat) and stars Milla Jovovich (The Messenger, The Fifth Element) and Michelle Rodriguez (S.W.A.T., Girlfight). There is also visual effects commentary, an alternate ending, five featurettes and a Resident Evil: Apocalypse clip compilation courtesy of Fangoria. It retails for $19.94.
Theres also a treat for animation fans in todays release of Alias: The Complete Third Season. The six-disc set from Buena Vista Home Video retails for $69.99 and features 22 episodes from the hit ABC series, including a special animated installment that bridges certain story elements. Extras include commentaries, a featurette on production design titled Burbank to Barcelona, a blooper reel, an inside look at the gadget lab and a behind-the- scenes featurette titled The Alias Diaries.
Theres another animated nugget to be found in the 10th anniversary edition of director Kevin Smiths indie hit, Clerks. The three-disc set lists for $34.99 and includes a lost animated scene, as well as commentary by Smith and cast members, Jay & Silent Bob MTV spots, a Soul Asylum Music Video, original audition tapes, a documentary on the story behind the film, a 10th anniversary Q&A session, a still photo gallery and Kevin Smiths original journals.
