Wayans Bros.’s Thugaboo Bound for DVD

Brothers Shawn, Marlon and Keenen Ivory Wayans, the minds behind the Fox television sketch series In Living Color and the smash hit Scary Movie film series, are out to snag a piece of the animation pie. Thugaboo, a series of animated kids specials inspired by their own childhood experiences, will be introduced by Warner Home Video on Aug. 29 following its mid-August premiere on Nickelodeon.

‘Thugaboo” is The Wayans Family’s own term for kids who may appear hard on the outside, but are soft, normal, curious children on the inside. The series will focus on one such kid named D-Roc, who runs with a pack of friends in “Boo York City” and learns valuable lessons about the importance of family, self-esteem, pursuing goals and more.

The first special, titled The Wayans Family Presents…Thugaboo Sneaker Madness, is a back-to-school story with a timely lesson for young viewers. In addition to Shawn and Marlon Wayans (White Chicks), the voice cast will feature sister Kim Wayans (In Living Color), Michael Rapaport (The War at Home), Aries Spears (Mad TV), David Alan Grier (The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz), George Gore II (My Wife and Kids) and Charlie Murphy (The Boondocks). The DVD will offer a behind-the-scenes featurette and a themed music video.
