Millions have played the Elf Bowling Flash game online, and soon they’ll be able to watch the movie on home video as Elf Bowling: The Great North Pole Elf Strike makes it to retail in time for Christmas. Produced by Filmbrokers Intl., the GC comedy is being distributed domestically by Screenmedia Films and will be available at Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, Blockbuster and Hollywood Video.
Popular for years, the Elf Bowling game is a simple diversion that has players try to knock down elves with a bowling ball as they mutter taunts. The storyline for the movie has Santa on a madcap adventure to Fiji, where he must rescue his elves from his scheming brother, Dingle.
The movie marks the directorial debut of Dave Kim, production coordinator on The Simpsons Movie and the upcoming kid lit adaptation The Golden Compass. Exec producers are Seth Willenson (Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys) and Lance Thompson (SciFi Channel’s Attack of the Sabertooth).
Main characters in the pic were animated by keyframe, while secondary characters were brought to life via motion-capture in HD resolution. Production was spread out over U.S., Fiji, and South Korea, with Softimage XSI utilized as the main tool.
