Adults and kids alike are served with this week’s offerings of TV animation on home video. Fans of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim can finally get a hold of the first volume of Squidbillies episodes, while tykes catch up with the adventures of Charlie and Lola, which just kicked off its third season on Disney Channel over the weekend.
Squidbillies: Volume One is a two-disc set featuring 20 15-minute episodes of the series from Aqua Teen Hunger Force co-creator Dave Willis and The Brak Show co-creator Jim Fortier. The absurd show revolves around a family of redneck squids living in the mountains of Georgia. Bonus materials include six never-before-seen pilot episodes, excerpts from an anime talk show, deleted scenes, a look at the show’s music and art, and a behind-the-scenes featurette titled How I make the Damn Show. The Warner Home Video release lists for $29.98.
A production of London-based Tiger Aspect Prods., Charlie and Lola is based on the award-winning children’s book series by Lauren Child, whose other creations include Clarice Bean and Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton Trent. Charlie and Lola has seven-year-old Charlie patiently helping his feisty, but endearing, four-year-old sister with such things as keeping a clean room, handling new friendships and overcoming a fear of the dark.
In Charlie and Lola, Vol. 6’How Many More Minutes Until Christmas? the title cartoon duo is extremely excited because Christmas is coming and they are taking turns opening the doors on the Advent calendar. After 24 days of preparation, everything looks set for the perfect Christmas until Lola realizes that she sent Lotta’s Christmas card to Santa, and sent her Christmas wish list to Lotta by mistake. Her frustration is exacerbated when she discovers that there is no door on the Advent calendar for Christmas Day, indicating the Christmas may have completely disappeared. The Warner release features outtakes and lists for $14.98.
