Pixar Shorts on DVD

The fun, animated appetizers spliced to the front of Disney/Pixar’s feature films are now the main course for fans who pick up the first volume in the Pixar Short Film Collection. Released today by Disney, the title offers all 13 bite-sized films produced by the Pixar team to date on one single disc with never-before-seen footage.

The fun starts with The Adventures of Andre and Wally, John Lasseter’s 1984 Lucasfilm exploration in 3D animation, and continues through the 2007 effort Lifted, which screened in theaters with Ratatouille. In between, viewers will find Luxo Jr., (1986), Red’s Dream (1987), Tin Toy (1988), Knick Knack (1989), Geri’s Game (1997), For The Birds (2001), Mike’s New Car (2002), Boundin’ (2003), Jack-Jack Attack (2005), One Man Band (2006) and Mater and the Ghostlight (2006).

The films each run an average of four to five minutes in length for a total running time of just under an hour. Most introduce audiences to all-new characters, while a few are spun off from various Pixar features. Mike’s New Car involves the stars of Monsters, Inc., while Jack-Jack Attack provides a side story for The Incredibles and Mater and the Ghostlight takes a detour from Cars. The Adventures of Andre and Wally and Red’s Dream have never been released on DVD with other Disney/Pixar films.

Bonus features include commentary for each short, a behind-the-scenes featurette and animation tests. The disc lists for $29.99 on standard DVD and $34.99 on Blu-ray Disc.
