GONZO Movies Go P2P

GDH has announced that anime titles produced by its subsidiaries, GONZO K.K. and GONZO Rosso K.K., will be distributed online via a P2P (peer-to-peer) network for a limited period. Speedgrapher and the upcoming spring release The Tower of Druaga’The Aegis of Uruk from GONZO, and Project PAPO from GONZO Rosso will be made available at bb.gonzo.co.jp using SkeedCast, a platform for digital content distribution developed by Dreamboat Co. Ltd.

The move will serve to evaluate how the use of P2P networks can contribute to a reduction in server load and costs, and to assess the feasibility of P2P file sharing as a new business model by distributing not only promotional footage, but also animation episodes for a fee. As broadband Internet usage continues to expand, GDH says it will continue to experiment with new video distribution systems.

The distribution service has been provided to GDH in an effort to assist in an experiment conducted by the P2P Network Experiment Council, a group supported by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
