Building on its $525 million worldwide box office success, 20th Century Fox’s animated summer hit The Simpsons Movie continued to rake in the d’oh on home video in its second week of release. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film beat out all other holiday offerings to hold onto the No. 1 spot on the national sales chart for the week ending Dec. 30. New Line’s Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker sequel Rush Hour 3 debuted at No. 3, followed by Universal’s Middle-East thriller, The Kingdom.
Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix remains strong after its Dec. 11 home video debut, ranking at No. 4 in DVD sales. The pic is followed by fellow summer theatrical releases The Bourne Ultimatum from Universal at No. 5 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at No. 6. The third outing for Captain Jack Sparrow was the week’s top Blu-ray Disc seller, while most HD DVD buyers shelled out for The Kingdom.
The Simpsons Movie dropped to No. 3 on the rental charts with $10.6 million earned. Rush Hour 3 emerged as the top rental with $11.9 million, followed closely by The Kingdom with $11.2 million.
