Fans of Hayao Miyazaki have plenty to be excited about this week with the release not just of his most-recent movie, Ponyo, but also special edition DVDs of three of his classic films.
Ponyo (Disney, $29.99 two-disc DVD, $39.99 Blu-ray combo pack) features a number of special features including a look at the world of Ghibli Studios and a extensive look behind the scenes at the making of the movie.
Getting new special edition releases on DVD are Kiki’s Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky (Disney, $29.99 each). All three include an interactive experience, and introduction by Disney-Pixar chief John Lasseter and a storyboard presentation of the film.
Major visual-effects releases out this week include Where the Wild Things Are (Warner Bros., $28.98 DVD, $35.99 Blu-ray) and 2012 (Sony, $28.96 DVD, $38.96 Blu-ray, $39.95 special edition Blu-ray, $24.94 UMD)
Children’s releases include Olivia Takes Ballet (Paramount, $16.99), Strawberry Shortcake: The Berryfest Princess (Fox, $19.98), Super Why: Peter Rabbit & Other Fairytale Adventures (Paramount, $14.99), Thomas & Friends: Thomas & The Runaway Kite (HIT Entertainment, $14.98) and Veggie Tales: Pistachio (Vivendi, $14.97).
