The visual effects classic Jason and the Argonauts, featuring outstanding stop-motion monsters from master Ray Harryhausen, arrives this week newly remastered and for the first time on Blu-ray.
The 1963 film (Sony, $24.98 Blu-ray) is regarded by Harryhausen as his finest film and the Blu-ray edition includes such bonus features as an interactive photo gallery, original storyboards and all-new commentaries from director Peter Jackson, visual effects artist Randall William Cook and film historian Tony Dalton.
It’s also a good week for anime fans, with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Season 2, Part 2 (Bandai Entertainment, $39.99 DVD, $44.98 special edition DVD), One Piece: Season 3 First Voyage (FUNimation, $49.98) and Bakugan: Chapter 2 (Turner, $19.97).
Also out this week is the preschooler disc Dive Olly Dive: Under Pressure (NCircle Entertainment, $6.99) and the compilation Classic Cartoons Collectors Set Volume 2 (Echo Bridge, $9.99).
