Beavis & Butt-Head and King of the Hill creator Mike Judge and Academy Award-nominated animator Don Hertzfeldt (Rejected) are bringing their new traveling animated film fest to the historic Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. The American Cinematheque is hosting The Animation Show, which will hit the screen tomorrow (Friday) at 7:00 p.m. Schedules permitting, Judge and Hertzfeldt will be on hand for discussion afterward.
This is a second preview of the collection of acclaimed animated short films from around the world. In July, the show played at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas but will officially kick off its first North American tour in New York City at the Lincoln Center Cinemas on September 4. It will then continue to travel to select cities throughout the fall.
The selection of films spans eight countries and features everything from forgotten classics (including a segment excerpted from legendary Disney animator Ward Kimballs Mars & Beyond), to the very latest in computer animation. Also included are the recent Academy Award-nominees Mt. Head, Das Rad, Strange Invaders, and Fifty Percent Grey. In addition, Judge and Hertzfeld will premiere their own new works.
Each year, The Animation Show promises to put animated short films into more theaters than any other animation festival in American history. The aim is “to finally give these filmmakers the wide exposure their work deserves and to share these short masterpieces on the big screen, where they belong.”
