Best of Platform Fest Coming to L.A.

Highlights of the inaugural Platform Festival of Animation in Oregon will be presented during a special screening in the Walt Disney Concert Hall’s Roy & Edna Disney/CalArts (REDCAT) Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Monday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. A drinks reception will be held afterwards, courtesy of the Cartoon Network Development Department.

Held in late june of this year, the first Platform Festival featured 150 animated films in competition and gave out more than $50,000 in prizes to winners in categories ranging from commercial and independent films to student animation, installations and works for new platforms, including cell phones and the Internet. The Pearce Sisters, Luis Cook’s wickedly funny and macabre tale about two weather-lashed Sisters living in remote coastal town won the Grand Prix and the prize for Best Art Design. Other winners included Don Hertzfeldt’s Everything Will Be OK, Run Wrake’s Rabbit, Regina Pessoa’s Tragic Story with a Happy Ending, Chris Sadler’s ‘Still Life’ episode of Aardman’s Shaun the Sheep series and Josh Raskin’s I Met the Walrus.

The Platform highlight screening is part of REDCAT’s fifth season, dubbed ‘A Celebration of Artistic Risk.’The REDCAT Theater is located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall at 631 West 2nd Street in Los Angeles. General admission is $9. Students and alumni with an Affinity Card get in for $7, and CalArts students, faculty and staff pay just $4. For tickets and Information, call (213) 237-2800.
