Magic Gathering for NY Anime Fest

The New York Anime Festival (NYAF) and game company Wizards of the Coast today announced that the World Championships of Magic: The Gathering will be held during the New York Anime Festival in December. Players from around the world will descend upon the Jacob Javits Center in New York City Dec. 6-9 to participate in both team and individual competitions, and take part in the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony, game demonstrations and various public events.

‘Gaming and artistry are important parts of the anime experience, and there’s nothing bigger or better than Magic: The Gathering World Championships,’ comments NYAF show manager John McGeary. ‘We’re honored to have the Magic: The Gathering World Championships take place alongside the New York Anime Festival, and we know both events will only benefit from this partnership.’

Players of the popular card-based fantasy game will be competing ove the four days for various prizes, including iPhones, Zunes, Garmins and even a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The event is free open to anyone who purchases a New York Anime Festival badge. More information can be found at www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=events/magic/worlds.

Organized by Reed Exhibitions, creators of New York Comic-Con, the New York Anime Festival takes place Dec. 7-9 in Midtown Manhattan and will showcase the latest in anime, manga, Japanese cinema, music and games. For more information, go to www.newyorkanimefestival.com.
