Transformers, Iron Man, Strange Up for Audio Awards

The DreamWorks/Paramount summer blockbuster Transformers and the Marvel/Lionsgate direct-to-DVD animated features The Invincible Iron Man and Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme were named among the nominees for the 44th Annual Cinema Audio Society Awards for outstanding achievement in sound mixing for 2007. Transformers is up for the award in the Motion Picture category, while Iron Man and Doctor Strange take on anime production Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society from Production I.G and other entries in the DVD Original Programming category. Winners will b e announced on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Transformers production mixer Peter Devlin and re-recording mixers Kevin O’Connell and Greg P. Russell are up against audio teams that worked on Warner Bros.’ 300, Universal’s The Bourne Ultimatum, Paramount Vantage’s Into the Wild and Miramax’s No Country for Old Men.

Original dialogue recording technician Eric Lewis and re-recording mixer Mike Draghi are essentially competing against themselves since they are nominated for both Iron Man and Doctor Strange. Their external competition includes Ghost in the Shell original dialogue recorder Noboru Haraguchi and re-recording mixer Tooru Kadokura. Also nominated in the category are Universal’s cheerleading sequel Bring It On: In It to Win It and MGM/Fox Home Entertainment’s sci-fi thriller Species: The Awakening.

On television, the first part of SCI FI Channel’s original miniseries Tim Man is nominated in the category Television Movies and Miniseries. The team of Eric Lamontagne, Iain Pattison, Paul A. Sharpe and Graeme Hughes were recognized for their work on the vfx-filled re-imagining of The Wizard of Oz.
