A pair of unique animation screening events are set for the Los Angeles area this Saturday, June 6.
The Missing Lynx, an animated film from Spain that won that nation’s Goya Award for best animated feature in 2008, will screen June 6 at 4 p.m. at the American Cinematheque at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica.
The film will be shown in its original Spanish with English subtitles.
Also screening Saturday is a program of original animated shorts from students in CalArts’ Community Arts Partnership/Sony Pictures Media Arts Program.
Each film is made by a student in the program, which is a 30-week after-school program for youths ages 10 to 14. Taught by CalArts faculty, students and alumni, classes are held twice a week at five sites: Banning’s Landing Community Center in Wilmington, Center for the Arts Eagle Rock in Eagle Rock, San Fernando Gardens Community Service Center in Pacoima, Watts Towers Arts Center in Watts, and the William Reagh Los Angeles Photography Center near MacArthur Park in Los Angeles.
The program is a partnership involving the CalArts Community Arts Partnership, the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The screening is free and will be held at the Warner Grand Theater 478 West 6th St., San Pedro, Calif. at 1 p.m. The screening will be preceded by a series of hands-on drawing and animation workshops in the lobby.
Jorge R. Gutierrez, a CalArts alumnus and creator of the Emmy-winning Nick series El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, will deliver a keynote address.
To reserve seats, contact the Warner Grand Theater at (310) 833-8333.
