Owly Gets Animated Short at Comic-Con

Comic-book favorite Owly is coming to life as a short animated film set to premiere at Comic-Con.

Based on the Eisner-winning, wordless comic book by Andy Runton about a kind owl and his friend Wormy, the short is directed in 3D CG style by Moto Sakakibara from storyboards by Runton.

The film was produced by Los Angeles-based Sprite Animation Studios.

“Over the past months, we’ve worked very closely to make sure Owly was faithfully translated to 3D. Every little detail was important to them, and the end result blows me away,’ says Runton.

The short can be seen at the booth of Top Shelf Productions (#1721), which publishes the Owly books, during the convention. Members of the Sprite team and Runton will appear in the booth to sign books, do sketches and talk to fans.
