A deadly outbreak of the H1N1 ‘swine flu’ virus has forced organizers to postpone Anifest India, the nation’s largest animation festival.
In a statement, The Animation Society of India stated: ‘Due to the increased risk of swine flu, the TASI has taken the difficult but important decision to postpone Anifest India 2009. It is a very disappointing thing for us but we have no choice under the current circumstances.’
The festival, set to run Aug. 13-16 in the city of Mumbai, had been set to host 1,500 registered attendees.
As of Aug. 10, six people have died in the virus’ outbreak, centered in the city of Pune, near Mumbai.
The organizers plan to announce details on the rescheduling of the festival at its website, www.tasionline.org.
