Shrek IV to Debut at Tribeca Festival

Shrek Forever After, the fourth and supposedly final installment in DreamWorks Animation’s flagship franchise, will premiere April 21 as the opening night film of the Tribeca Film Festival.

The movie, which has been produced in stereoscopic 3-D, reunite the classic cast of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas in a new tale that sees family man Shrek long for the freedom of his youth. Directed by Mike Mitchell, Shrek Forever After is set for release on May 21.

‘We have always sought to open our festival with films that are captivating and strike an emotional chord with movie-goers,’ says Tribeca Film Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal on the event’s official blog. ‘Shrek Forever After combines the very best in storytelling and artistry while showcasing the wonders of innovative 3-D filmmaking, [making it] one of the most anticipated new movies of 2010.’

‘DreamWorks Animation is honored to bring the world premiere of Shrek Forever After to New York City for the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. It is a great privilege and tribute to our entire cast and crew to have been chosen as this year’s opening night selection,’ said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation CEO.

The festival is set to run April 21 to May 2, with tickets going on sale April 13.
