NFB Brings Trenches, Diaries to Toronto Festival

The National Film Board of Canada is taking three films to the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival ‘ two of them animated.

The NFB will present the Canadian premiere of the short animated film The Trenches, an anti-war film made by Claude Cloutier using India ink and brushwork. The Trenches is produced by Marc Bertrand at the NFB’s French Animation Studio.

Also showing at the festival is Lipsett Diaries, director Theodore Ushev’s animated short about the tormented life of experimental filmmaker Arthur Lipsett. The film features narration from Xavier Dolan and is produced by Bertrand.

Lipsett Diaries has played this summer at such prestigious festivals as the World Festival of Animated Film, Annecy and the Worldwide Short Film Festival in Toronto.

Other animated films set to play at the 35th edition of the annual festival include Interregnum, from director Nick Fox-Gieg; and The Sapporo Project, from Marie-Josee Saint-Pierre.

The festival is set to run Sept. 9-19.
