The director best known for the 2001 international kids hit Chiquititas, is now fully engaged filming the animated epic Patoruzito.
The Buenos Aires-based Patagonik Film Group is producing the $1 million project. Patagonik is backed by Walt Disney’s Buena Vista Intl., Argentina’s Grupo Clarin and Spain’s Admira. Argentina’s Red Logo Entertainment and local broadcaster Telefe, a unit of Admira, are also involved in the production.
The film is based on a 75 year-old cartoon about a boy and his family in the Patagonian outback. Adapted for the screen by Omar Quiroga (Condor Crux), Patoruzito is set for a July release, distributed by Buena Vista.
