Axis Brings Codehunters to MTV Asia

BAFTA-winning Scottish toon studio Axis Animation recently got more international exposure with the short film Codehunters, a production of Blinkink. The short aired on Saturday, May 6, as part of the MTV Asia Music Awards in Bangkok, reaching approximately 400 million homes throughout Asia.

Blinkink director Ben Hibon wrote, designed, storyboarded, edited and directed Codehunters, a toon-shaded 3D fantasy tale about four heroes who band together to take on gangs, corrupt cops, rampaging monsters and a tyrannical warlord. In addition to being screened during the awards ceremony, the short was used for branding the event as stills, clips and designs from the film provided a backdrop and costumed characters mingled with the musical talent. The award trophy itself was a bronze cast model of one of the characters in the movie.

Axis recently picked up a Welsh BAFTA and a string of other awards for its TV series, Colin & Cumberland. The studio has also earned PROMAX Gold awards and kudos from the New York Festival, Celtic Film Festival and Roses Design Awards for other projects. With Codehunters, Axis hopes it has finally turned the spotlight on the often overlooked Scottish animation industry. Codehunters can be viewed online at www.blinkink.co.uk.
