Superman Marathon to Fly on Boomerang

As anticipation builds for the June 30 big-screen release of Warner Bros. Superman Returns, cable cartoon net Boomerang is muscling in on the action with a 24-hour, commercial-free marathon of episodes from three different animated series featuring the Man of Steel. The June 24 broadcast event will include installments of Superman (1996), Batman Beyond (1999) and Justice League (2001), each produced by renowned Warner Bros. Animation director Bruce Timm.

Bruce Timm is a self-taught artist and life-long Superman fan who joined Warner Bros. Television Animation in 1989 as a storyboard artist and character designer. He would later serve as a producer on Batman: The Animated Series, before going on to create the 1996 incarnation of the animated Superman series. Batman Beyond followed and, in 2001, he led the Warner Bros. creative team that produced Justice League for Cartoon Network. Timm also exec produced the Cartoon Network/Kids’ WB! series Teen Titans.

‘Superman Saturday’ will feature episodes hand-picked by Boomerang programmers to spotlight the many talents and facets of DC Comics’ Superman character, who first appeared in the 1938 Action Comics #1. The caped defender of truth, justice and the American way has since been the focus of several animated and live-action television series, as well as the highly successful feature films starring the late Christopher Reeve. Newcomer Brandon Routh takes over the role of Clark Kent and his super-powered alter-ego in the effects-laden Superman Returns, directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men, X2: X-Men United, The Usual Suspects).
