Qubo to NBC, Telemundo, i network

NBC Universal, Scholastic, Corus Ent. and Classic Media/Big Idea have joined forces to launch Qubo, a new multi-platform kids’ television network that champions literacy and positive values. The initiative will first kick off with the qubo programming block, which will premiere on NBC and Telemundo on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 9, and on ION Media Network’s i network on Friday afternoon, Sept. 15. Programming on the block will be broascast in both English and Spanish.

Targeting kids 4-8, Qubo will encourage problem-solving on issues such as getting along with friends and family, overcoming fears and mastering new ideas and challenges. The block will feature the U.S. broadcast premieres of Scholastic’s Dragon, Nelvana’s Jane and the Dragon and Classic/Big Idea’s VeggieTales Presents: 3-2-1 Penguins! and LarryBoy Adventures. The new shows will aor alongside established favorites VeggieTales and Nelvana’s Babar and Jacob Two-Two. Sprinkled throughout will be Scolastic’s series of interstitials titled ‘Reading: Everybody’s Doing It.’

Future multi-platform Qubo offerings will include a dedicated, 24/7 digital television network that will launch across ION Media Networks’ nationwide television station group, a branded website (www.qubotv.com) and VOD services. Classic Media/Big Idea, Scholastic Media, Nelvana and NBC Universal will collectively contribute more than 1,000 half hours of children’s programming, including one original series per year from each partner.
