Kids’ WB! on The CW announced that the official title of the new animated webslinger TV series will be The Spectacular Spider-Man. Slated to premiere in early 2008, the show picks up Marvel Comics’ Spidey mythology at the beginning of his hero’s journey and finds a 16-year-old Peter Parker struggling with the pressures of teenage life while learning to handle his new-found powers and the various super-villains that threaten the city.

‘The use of the ‘Spectacular’ title is an homage to Marvel’s wildly popular series of Spider-Man comics, and is very reflective of the enthusiasm and high regard we have for the production,’ says Kids’ WB! senior VP and general manager Betsy McGowen. ‘This promises to be a stand-out animated series that will perfectly complement both Sony Entertainment’s box office-shattering films and the amped-up action on Kids’ WB! every Saturday.’

The Spectacular Spider-Man is being produced by Culver Ent., a Sony Pictures Television company, with Gary Wiseman (Gargoyles, The Batman) serving as supervising producer. Victor Cook (Hellboy: Blood and Iron) is producer/supervising director. The show joins fellow superhero toons The Batman and Legion of Super Heroes on Kids’ WB! on The CW. The programming block also features such ht animated shows as Pok’mon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Xiaolin Showdown, Jackie Chan Adventures, ‘Mucha Lucha! Gigante and Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get A Clue!
